CAREERS

Dance Industry’s training enables pupils to consider a professional career in the entertainment industry. There are several pathways into the industry, which you can find further information about by clicking the headers below. Many of our pupils gain professional employment through auditions, either during/directly after their training with us or after taking professional training at an accredited college or university. Contracts within teaching, dance, musical theatre, TV, advertising and film are all encouraged by our staff as they require and develop a wide range of skills in which we build a base for our pupils.

  • Most commonly we would advise to train at an accredited theatre college – these establishments accept students through an audition process and offer a limited number of funded Dance & Drama Awards (DaDA) and paid places every year. Our teachers will happily advise which colleges are most suited to those looking to audition and will help choose songs and dances which will promote their highest abilities.

DaDA funding is a scholarship scheme run by the Education Funding Agency which offers those with exceptional talent or potential full or part funding for their theatre training. Those offered places without funding will be expected to pay fees usually a lot higher than normal university fees, however some are lucky enough to find funding elsewhere. Click here to find out more about funding theatre studies on the DaDA website.

Accredited colleges usually provide the countries best staff and guest teachers, with a high percentage of students gaining professional employment immediately upon graduation. The countries top agents are invited to their end of year showcases and exclusive contracts for large professional productions and pantomimes are often offered directly to colleges as many of their staff are still working actively in the industry or have built reputable relationships with those who are.

Accredited colleges include: Performers College, Bird College, Laine Theatre Arts, Royal Ballet School, Guildford School of Acting, Mountview

  • A large number of universities now offer performance or technical courses at college or degree level. Many universities have touring companies and have a fantastic pool of experienced industry staff on site or as guests to train. Local to Littlehampton, courses are offered at Southern Theatre Arts Centre (Northbrook College) and Chichester University. These courses are funded through students loans and accept students through auditions and/or UCAS application.

  • For most roles, a casting director will hold auditions in order to see a wide range of performers who are suitable for their production.

    OPEN AUDITIONS

Open auditions often advertised publicly and are open to everyone who wishes to attend, they often mean a lot of waiting around in queues to be seen but are a good way to show off your talent. You can find some audition postings on The Stage

    CLOSED AUDITIONS

Closed auditions are not made public and are by invitation only. Invitations will usually be sent out to those who are already known to the casting director or those who’s agents have a good reputation in the industry.
